Here’s another back-to-school special that may prove interesting.
How about choosing your kids’ school lunch off a menu and then having it prepared and delivered (with a whole lot of love) by Holly Pisani, the fabulous home cook behind Little Peas and Love?
Sounds interesting? Read on as we chat to Holly to find out more …
Holly, can you tell us a little bit about yourself …
I’m a food lover who is interested in healthy eating, looking after the environment, using less meat and fish and having a more sustainable diet. I love using different ingredients and trying new things and I wanted this to translate into my business. I believe in a holistic lifestyle and looking after yourself and I enjoy keeping fit through yoga and jogging.
How did the idea of Little Peas and Love come about and what is the concept behind it?
Little Peas & Love is an extension of Peas & Love that is aimed at children. The concept behind Peas & Love is getting people to eat a healthier diet and to introduce more fruit and vegetables into their daily lives.
Modern life is so busy and often our diets get left behind so here’s where we come in … we prepare and deliver food straight to your home or office. Once the concept took off, we realized that busy mums also needed help and that it can be hard thinking up a fun, balanced menu every week, shopping for it and preparing it. So basically we’re doing all that hard work so you don’t have to.
I’m sure many mummies are going to love this service, what can their little ones expect to find on the menu?
Balls, patties and cakes full of veggies and fresh produce, fun little mini pizzas, spinach pastries, fruit, pasta with sauces packed with disguised veggies. We balance fun, fresh and most importantly healthy.
How does the service work exactly?
It’s super simple, anyone interested can sign up to receive a weekly menu via our website or through our facebook page. You can then check the menu, tweak it (for the fussy eaters) and book it. We will then arrange collection or delivery and your school lunches are set.
What is your most popular item so far?
Our meatballs have been very popular with the kids (and their mummies). We make beef, couscous and carrot balls and various other flavors which can also be frozen and defrosted and warmed when needed or eaten fresh when delivered!
Have you always been into food and cooking? What do you love about it?
I’ve always loved cooking and was taught by my mother from a very young age so I feel comfortable in a kitchen. We were raised on a farm so we always had fresh herbs, oil, fruit and vegetables. This is a luxury not many people have so we’re even working with local farmers to promote organic farming and turn our farm into an organic farm in the future. Now I love experimenting with different recipes and ingredients and using the freshest, wholesome ingredients.
What is your life motto?
When it comes to food? Everything in moderation. Life’s too short to say no to a few treats but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to eat better. Good food doesn’t have to be unhealthy, we focus so much on our lifestyle and health that we sometimes forget that it starts with children, we want to replace fast food with convenient food that is good for their growing bodies.
How can anyone who wishes to avail of your service get in touch with you?
